The story unlocks once you make your call.
True. True! Botanically, a berry grows from one ovary with seeds inside.
Where it came from
In the kitchen, “berry” means a small sweet fruit you can pick and eat whole. Botany uses the word differently.
Why it’s true
A botanical berry develops from a single flower with a single ovary and has its seeds embedded in the flesh. Bananas, tomatoes, grapes, kiwis and even aubergines all qualify.
A strawberry grows from a flower with many ovaries, and its “seeds” on the outside are each a tiny separate fruit. Raspberries are aggregate fruits too. Neither is a true berry.
