Where it came from
We tend to picture “ancient Egypt” as a single moment with pyramids and pharaohs in it. In fact Egyptian civilisation lasted around three thousand years, longer than the time from Cleopatra to us.
Why it’s true
The Great Pyramid of Giza was finished around 2560 BC. Cleopatra VII died in 30 BC, about 2,530 years later. Apollo 11 landed on the Moon in 1969, about 2,000 years after her death.
To Cleopatra the pyramids were already older monuments than the Colosseum is to us.
